Emperor Scorpion

Pandinus imperator

This impressive looking arachnid gets its name from being the largest scorpion in the world reaching an average size of 8 inches.  While the stinging spine at the end of the tail is supplied with venom from two glands, the sting of this species of scorpion is less dangerous to humans than a bee sting.  The venom is used to bring down prey and for defense.  Also used for hunting and defense are the large, powerful pincers which dismember prey such as crickets and can also deliver a painful pinch to the finger!
