Custom Programs

Specialized programs are available to meet your needs including National and State Education Standards, birthday parties, corporate functions, holiday parties, and practically any other event. 

 

      Animal Specific Programs (customized to all ages)

Are you specifically interested in one type or group of animals?  Any type or group of animals can be customized into its own program.  For example, Ferrets, Reptiles, Wolves, etc.

Prepared Programs

Age recommendations:  Each prepared program will have an age recommendation listed after each title.  Typical age groupings are from 3-5, 6-9, 10-13, 14-18, and Adult (over 18).  These recommendations are merely guidelines, however, and nearly any program can be customized to practically any age group.

Program Length:  Prepared Programs are offered as either 45 minutes or 90 minutes in length.  Custom Programs follow a similar length, but as the name indicates, can be customized.

Audio/Visual Packages:  For a reasonable fee, an exciting Audio and/or Visual Package can be added to enhance your Program (Custom or Prepared) and leave a lasting impact on your audience.

Audio Package 1:  Includes professional sound equipment and microphones to increase the volume of the presentation so everyone in a large group can hear equally well.  

Audio Package 2:  Includes professional sound equipment and microphones to not only increase the volume of the presentation, but also includes music themed to the presentation.  Music adds one more exciting level to our already dynamic presentations.

Visual Package:  Includes a digital projector and a 5’x7’ screen to give that big screen experience!  Each Program (Custom or Prepared) can have an accompanying Power Point, digital slideshow, and/or video clips to dramatically emphasize the main message of the Program.  Digital imagery can also be used to bring other animals into the Program that otherwise wouldn’t be possible (elephants, sharks, etc.).

Learn about a variety of animals and where they live and make their homes in their natural habitats.

What’s for Dinner?  (Ages 6-9, 10-13)

Find out what animals eat and how they eat it by looking at a variety of teeth, food, and the mouths they go in.

Them Bones  (Ages 6-9, 10-13)

Using animal bones, skulls and teeth, see how animals are put together from the inside out.

From Wolf to Dog  (Ages 10-13, 14-18)

How can a dachshund and wolf be basically the same animal?  If Canis lupus (wolf) and Canis lupus familiaris (dog) are the same species, why do they look so different?  Find out how in this enlightening discussion about and with man’s best friend.

Predator vs. Prey  (Ages 10-13, 14-18)

What is the difference between animals that hunt and those that are hunted?  See the differences in behavior, bone structure and of course live animals!

Biomes (Ages 10-13, 14-18)

Learn about the different regions of the world and what types of animals live there including Oceans, Tundra, Forests, Grasslands, Deserts, and Mountains.

See the amazing ways that animals have behaviorally adapted to their environment to find food, protect themselves, hunt, and to attract a mate.

Endangered Spaces = Endangered Species  (Ages 10-13, 14-18)

Learn how animals that are threatened with extinction often have the most change to their natural environment, from meteors to motor vehicles.  Learn how you can help save animals from extinction.      

Careers with Animals  (Ages 10-13, 14-18)

So, you want to work with animals?  Find out how about the wide variety of careers available and how to get there.  Learn about education requirements (from high school to college and beyond), experience needed and how to get it, the pay scale, as well as the time, commitment, and dedication needed to have a career with animals.  

The Domestication Story  (Ages 10-13, 14-18)

How is it that predators such as wolves and wildcats came to live in our houses?  How did we get animals off of the mountains and out of the jungle to live in our backyard pens so we can milk them, use their eggs, and even eat them?  Thousands of years of selective breeding have brought humans great companionship (dogs, cats, ferrets, etc.) nourishment (cows, goats, chickens, etc.), and literally the clothes on our backs (sheep, cattle, silkworms, etc.).  Find out the rest of the story in this eye opening, historically accurate tale.

Species Conservation (Age 14-18, Adult)

See how it takes the collaboration of many people from zoos/conservation organizations, government agencies, and the general public to save a species from extinction.  The success story of the Bald Eagle and the current work on the Black-footed Ferret Recovery Programs will be featured. 

Comparative Anatomy (Age 14-18, Adult)

See the surprising similarities between the skeletal structures of different animals and humans.

Comparative Behavior (Adult)

See the relation between animal behavior in pets vs. their wild counterparts to better understand why pets behave the way they do.

Animal Nutrition (Adult)

Geared more toward pet owners, learn specifics of what types of food your particular pet(s) should and should not eat.  Learn the impact that an animal’s diet will have on health, vigor, and lifespan.

Prepared Programs – Ages 3-5

 

Animal Tails

            With a variety of animal stories to choose from (see below), these programs feature live animals represented

            in or related to a story that is read to the children.  This includes a storybook reading, a hands-on animal

            encounter, and a coloring page of a featured animal.

 

Animal Tails Booklist and Story Descriptions 

Andiama, Weasel by Rose Marie Grant.  An Italian Crow and Weasel grow some crops.  Weasel tries to weasel out of work and steals the corn.  Learn some Italian and find out what happens to Weasel and Crow as we present our own thieving weasel, the Ferret and a live American Crow.

Daniel in the Lion’s Den, Story from Scripture.  Learn how Daniel was sent to the Lion’s Den and how he survived.  See a life-sized lion head sculpture, a lion skull and claw and meet a domestic cat.

 I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff.  Alex does his best to convince his mother that he can take care of an Iguana.  Find out how Alex does it as you meet a full sized iguana. 

 LeGare the Lowcountry Lizard by Christi Sanford.  Legare the lizard finds something strange in his garden and recognizes it belongs at the beach.  Join Legare as he travels to the coast.  Meet our lowcountry lizards, a Water Dragon and a Gecko.

 Miss Spider’s Tea Party by David Kirk.  Miss Spider throws a tea party but the insects are afraid to attend until one good deed changes everyone’s mind.  Meet a tarantula and hissing cockroach.

 Noah’s Ark, Story from Scripture.  As we retell the famous story of Noah and the Ark, meet a variety of God's creatures (2x2 of course!). 

 Pooh and the Dragon by Ann Braybrooks.  As Winnie the Pooh and friends search for a mysterious and elusive dragon, your children can encounter real dragons!  Meet a Water Dragon and a Bearded Dragon.

 Surf Gecko to the Rescue by Bruch Hale.  A fun, environmental tale of Moki, the little Hawaiian gecko who leads a campaign to clean up the beaches.  Meet a Gecko.

 The Hole Story by Sally Plumb.  A children’s story about prairie wildlife and the reintroduction of North America’s most endangered mammal – the Black-footed ferret.  Meet a domesticated ferret.

 The Problem with Prickles by Barbara Davoll.  Join Prickles the Porcupine as he deals with being different and finds out what true friends are. Meet our prickly friend, the Hedgehog.

 Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.  Go on a wild rumpus with Max as he travels to where the wild things are.  Meet a variety of wild things.

 Wombat Goes Walkabout by Michael Morpirgo.  Join Wombat on a trip through the Austrailian Outback as he shows other animals what he can do.  Meet some Australian animals such as an Umbrella Cockatoo and a Bearded Dragon.
