Gerrhosaurus major This reptile is well protected with its overlaying plated scales. Strangely, it will sometimes share an underground burrow with a snake or dwarf mongoose. It may look very stout, but this reptile has a flexible body that allows it to defensively tail whip or wriggle free from a predator's grasp. Like many other lizards, it can also drop its tail in a last ditch effort to escape a predator.
