Rattus norvegicus
While some people get the shivers when thinking about rats, others tend to fancy having rats as pets - thus the name fancy rat. Rats are highly intelligent and trainable. Unfortunately, rats get a bad wrap as people associate them with sewers, garbage, and the bubonic plague.
Rat tails are an amazing adaptation. Its appearance is almost scaly and without fur. This is to help the rat use its tail to cling to narrow surfaces like branches, fence tops and wire cables. While it can grip these surfaces with its tail, it is not prehensile like an opossum or monkey.
